Handling Illegal Immigrants from Mexico

In recent months, Texas has bused nearly 9,000 asylum seekers to New York City and Washington, DC, as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s effort to highlight his criticism of the Biden administration’s immigration policies . The busing mission is providing much-needed relief to overwhelmed border communities, according to Abbott’s office.

The United States government has been grappling with the issue of illegal immigration for many years. The government has implemented various policies and programs to address the issue, including the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Agreement with Mexico and USA on Illegal Immigration

According to a recent article by CNN, Mexico has made an agreement with the United States to deport migrants from its border cities to their home countries and take several actions to deter migrants as part of a new effort to combat the recent surge in border crossings.

Mexican officials met with US Customs and Border Protection officials in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, to discuss the recent spike in illegal crossings into the US that temporarily closed an international bridge and paused Mexico’s main cargo train system.

As part of the agreement, Mexico agreed to “depressurize” its northern cities, which border the El Paso, San Diego and Eagle Pass, Texas, where the mayor has declared a state of emergency . They will also implement more than a dozen actions to prevent migrants from risking their lives by using the railway system to reach the US-Mexico border, according to Mexico’s National Migration Institute .

Title 42:

The Biden administration has continued to rely on a public health authority, known as Title 42, that was put in place last year allowing border authorities to swiftly turn back migrants apprehended at the border. Unaccompanied children are not subject to the policy.

Deportation:

When migrants who either walk or sneak across the border are apprehended, Border Patrol agents take them to facilities for processing, which includes a health screening and a criminal background check. Because of the overwhelming surge of migrants, the Border Patrol has had to open several temporary facilities to hold and process them.
